Primitive Tribe Boys and Girls High School
A total of two systems have been installed at the Primitive Tribe Boys and Girls Residential School, Shahpur: a 10.8 kW grid-connected system and a 2.7 kW off-grid system. The grid-connected system comprises 24 panels, and the off-grid system consists of 6 panels along with 12 batteries for storage. Due to the unpredictability of grid electricity in the area, two types of systems are installed a the school. These systems are estimated to generate a total of 17,955 units of electricity in the first year. The school is estimated to save Rs. 1.5 lakhs in the first year. In addition to the financial benefits, the system will offset 14.58 metric tons of CO2 equivalent emissions in the same year.
About the School
The Primitive Tribe Boys’ and Girls’ Residential School is run by the ABM Samaj Prabodhan Sanstha Trust, which also runs the acclaimed Bharatratna Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Tribal Residential School in Shirole. Both schools were founded and are run by Mr. Sitaram Gaikwad, a prominent educationist and social reformer in the Thane district. This is a government-aided residential school, which runs exclusively for the benefit of the primitive tribe community in Thane district. The school currently hosts more than 300 students up to standard 10. Education is offered free of cost to all students, as the students come from low-income communities and cannot afford to pay school fees.
