K.J. Somaiya Secondary School

An 11.38 kWp solar PV system, consisting of 25 panels, has been installed on the metal roof of the school. The system is expected to generate 15,925 units of electricity in the first year. As a result, the school will save approximately Rs. 1,14,979 on their electricity bill during the same period. Additionally, this will help the school reduce its carbon emissions by 12.3 MTCO2e.

About the School

The Sou Leelaben Kotak Primary and K.J. Somaiya Secondary School is a government-recognised Marathi medium school for grades 1 to 10 established by the Girivanvasi Educational Trust. The school campus offers residential facilities for the tribal school children who stay in remote areas, as well as a shelter home for students in need of care and protection. The Nareshwadi Learning Centre also has a Vocational Education and Training Centre (VETC), a School Health Centre, a School Farm and Nursery and the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana Centre for skill training (PMKVY). The Girivanvasi Trust provides free education, lodging and boarding to all the students of the Sou Leelaben Kotak Primary and K.J. Somaiya Secondary School. The school accommodates more than 600 students from grades 1 to 10. In order to provide holistic education to students, co and extracurricular activities are part of their regular school day, such as music, sports, Warli painting, garment making, plumbing and other activities. Since the children come from agricultural families or the local Warli tribe, the school focuses on teaching agriculture to its students to preserve their roots. The school follows the Maharashtra State Board curriculum.
